Job Summary

The Instructional Designer (ID) will participate in all phases of the creation of elearning solutions, from analysis to maintenance. The ID will work directly with subject matter experts to apply appropriate learning theories and evidence-based practices, define learning outcomes, organize course content, and oversee development of elearning solutions. As a member of the Learning and Development (L&D) team, the ID will collaborate with both the client and our course developers to ensure vision, requirements, and standards are met in creating viable and effective elearning solutions.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Analysis of content and assessment strategies, with a focus on elearning courses
  • Collaborate and communicate with project managers, team members, and subject matter experts in the design and delivery of elearning solutions to ensure project and learner success including identifying resources, risks, and opportunities
  • Ensure training materials are clear, concise, consistent, and instructionally sound and follow internal guidelines and development processes
  • Collaborate to maintain documents related to process, standards, tracking, etc.
  • Conduct reviews of existing courses to evaluate best practice and learning effectiveness
  • Ensure vision and standards on projects are met and maintained
  • While mainly focused on instructional design, experience in curriculum development would be an asset, as projects may require planning, revision, and development of curriculum, assessment strategies, and design of course materials.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., education, instructional design, educational psychology, etc.), or 1+ years instructional design experience, or an appropriate combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools, email, and other basic PC and web-based applications
  • Experience using an LMS such as ILIAS, Moodle, etc.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency using elearning authoring software. Some of these include Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Adobe Captivate, etc.
  • Experience with online learning and/or the development of online courses is highly valued

Other Skills:

  • A strong foundational knowledge of instructional design techniques, particularly as they pertain to adult learning
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; technical writing skills a plus
  • Strong ability to manage, prioritize, and organize multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively in both independent and team environments
  • Experience with implementing WCAG 2.0 – Web Content Accessibility Guidelines considered an asset
  • Familiarity with current trends impacting elearning design and implementation is an asset (e.g., mobile development, microcredentials, etc.)
