This Missing Persons Investigations (MPI) online course has been created to equip all law enforcement professionals with the tools required to effectively conduct missing persons investigations in a timely manner, in accordance with applicable policies and current best practices. The course will examine investigative steps, tools, resources and best practices required to conduct effective missing persons’ investigations and will also examine vulnerable populations and how to better serve our communities.
This is a self-directed and self-paced online course. It is comprised of these six modules followed by an assessment:
- Module 1 – Course Introduction
- Module 2 – Overview of Missing Persons Investigations
- Module 3 – Key Elements of Missing Persons Investigations
- Module 4 – Additional Tools and Resources
- Module 5 – Special Considerations
- Module 6 – Missing Indigenous Persons
- Recognize the importance of timely action in missing persons investigations
- List key investigative steps to be taken in an missing persons investigation in accordance with applicable policies and best practices
- Recognize tools, resources, and best practices in the field of missing persons investigations
- Identify vulnerable populations and factors specific to these populations that affect the investigation
