Introduction to Evidence-Based Policing

Today, policing is subject to high levels of scrutiny. Evidence-based policing (EBP) incorporates data, analysis, research, and evidence into policymaking and program decisions. EBP does not replace officer experience. It complements officer experience and demonstrates the credibility of decision making and the value of police programs.

Introduction to Evidence-Based Policing provides learners with an overview of the key components of evidence-based policing, methodologies used in research, and the Three Rs versus the Triple-T approaches to policing. It also reviews harm-focused policing and the Crime Harm Index as evidence-based approaches to inform decision making. Learners examine several case studies of evidence-based policing experiments and review the findings.
