The Family Homes on Reserves and Matrimonial Interests or Rights Act was created to provide rights and protections for spouses and other family members on reserves during incidents of family violence, separation, or death of a spouse.
This resource guide will help peace officers working on reserves to navigate and apply the specific sections of the Act. It includes general information about the legislation as well as a flow chart/job aid that will help officers know when and how to apply the legislation.
Upon completion of this offering, you will be able to:
- Recognize the situations in which to use civil orders in the Family Homes on Reserves and Matrimonial Interests or Rights Act (the Act) (ss. 16-19, 24 and 27)
- Articulate your duties and responsibilities in the Act, operational policies and procedures.
